Advocating during Covid for our adult Athletes

Published 19th October 2020

Recently Cheer N Dance Bendigo welcomed reporter Sarah Lawrence and 9 News Central Victoria to our gym to strongly advocate and bring to light the harsh and continuing restrictions being placed upon our adult athletes within the easing of restrictions announcement, 18th October 2020,  by the Victorian Premier, Dan Andrews.
The news article, shown throughout Victoria on Regional News and on Social Media, received positive support throughout several Regional Victorian towns and more specifically within the Bendigo community.
After 13 years of offering our Bendigo community Adult Dance & Cheerleading, this announcement resulted in our adult athletes being excluded from training in our purpose fitted and safe gym environment, one that is more than large enough to comfortably and responsibly socially distance in.
After 8 months of having our gym closed & heavily restricted, we respect the process of reopening our community in a responsible fashion and we are happy to see other local businesses being able to operate during this time, however we question that some businesses can have up to 40 adults in one facility yet we are unable to even have 1.

As part of this advocating we reached out to our locals State MP’s, Jacinta Allan and Maree Edwards MP to help enable our adult athletes to get back to doing what they love, as it is so important more than ever, for both their mental and physical health.

Update:

We welcome the latest easing of restrictions by the Victorian State Government, one that allows for adult athletes to return to our gym and train with their club and team mates. Although the added safety measures and restrictions that are being put in place for our adult teams and classes are extensive, we welcome any measure that allow both our athletes to return to their gym home and provide safety for our club and greater community.
